Earn Money using sunlight falling on your home roof

Today while reading an article in Kannada News Paper I came across an interesting article – where we can earn money by generating electricity with sunlight which falls on our home roof.

Now its time to claim sunlight on our rooftop is our property and also earns Money. 

Very good and innovative concept by Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC).
Till now we had option to use Solar Energy for heating water or lighting our home.

But now we can generate electricity and sell to Electricity Supply Company (ESCOM) in that area.

• Solar Panel companies will install these solar panels on your rooftop.
• Central Government provides Subsidy for the same
• Sell this electricity to ESCOM and earn Money

As electricity is produced by you

• You will not have power cuts
• No need to pay electricity bill so you will save this money

Earnings:

Imagine you have a house in an area of 30 Sq ft * 40 Sq ft . 

You can setup a 5 Kilo Watt (KW) capacity SPV (Solar PV) Unit.

This will cost you  90,000 rupees

From this unit everyday 25 units gets generated. (Due to cloudy weather/ rain yearly 40 to 50 days production of 5 to 10 units might be less)

So monthly on an average we can provide 750 Units of electricity to grid and earn around 7000 rupees per month.

After Bank loan payment and our electricity usage bill payment we can earn minimum of 5000 rupees

What is this Policy?

This policy is “Rooftop photovoltaic power plant”

In empty space of you rooftop setting up a mini Solar Power plant - this is called SPV (Solar PV).

• SPV will absorb sunlight
• Converts to Direct Current (DC)
• then converts to Alternating Current (AC)
•  Supply to ESCOM Grid

Along with SPV a device called “Net Metering system” is also available and this will show the amount of electricity provided by the SPV to Grid.

Like this we can generate electricity in our home and sell to ESOM in terms of units.

Unit rates that we sell to ESCOM: Rupees 9.56/Unit

Visit your nearest ESCOM office to get SPV installation dealers details.

• Dealers will install SPV and Net Metering System.
• Central Ministry of New and Renewable Energy or MNRE provides 30% subsidy for this.
• Also amount that has to be paid for unit setup  Wheeling Charges, banking and Cross-subsidy charge are waived off by KERC.

Every unit you provide to grid ESCOM will pay you  9.56/Unit. 

If you have availed subsidy then you can get  7.20 per unit

Such  a nice way to

- escape from regular power cuts

- escape for regular power tariff hikes

- earn money 

- all time electricity in home

- electricity need will reduce
